A split system is the quickest, most affordable way to get one room — or the whole house — properly comfortable. One unit inside, one outside, and if it's sized and sited right it'll run quietly for years on very little power.

Single split or multi-head?
A single split runs one indoor unit off one outdoor unit. Best for a bedroom, a living area, a home office, a shop or a small office. Cheapest to buy, cheapest to run, simplest to repair.
A multi-head system runs two to five indoor units off one outdoor unit. Worth it when you want several rooms done but you've got nowhere to put multiple outdoor units — a unit, a townhouse, a narrow block, or a body-corporate building with rules about what goes on the wall.
Multi-head isn't automatically cheaper than separate splits, and if one outdoor unit goes down, every room it feeds goes with it. We'll tell you which way works out better for your place rather than assuming.
If you're doing the whole house and you've got roof space, ducted is often the better answer.
Getting the size right
An oversized unit is the most common mistake we see, and it's worse than undersized. It cools the room fast, shuts off, and never runs long enough to pull the humidity out — so the room feels cold and clammy, and the compressor wears out from short cycling.
We size on the room, not on a rule of thumb: floor area and ceiling height, which way the windows face, glazing, insulation, how much western sun it cops in summer, and how many people are usually in there.
We also think about where it goes:
Indoor unit placed so air reaches the whole room, not just the wall opposite
Outdoor unit sited for airflow and for the neighbours' noise, not just whatever's closest
Pipe runs kept short and tidy, with proper drainage so you never get a leak through the ceiling
Brackets and fixings rated for coastal salt air

What it costs
A split system install is priced on the job. What moves the price:
Capacity needed for the room
Back-to-back install, or a long pipe run through the roof or along a wall
Single or double storey, and how the outdoor unit gets craned or carried in
Brickwork, cladding or render that needs careful penetration
Electrical work — whether there's a spare circuit, or the switchboard needs attention
Multi-head versus separate systems
Removal and disposal of an old unit
We quote in writing with the system and the inclusions spelled out, so you can compare it properly. No charge for the quote, no obligation.
How the job runs
Quote — we work out what the room needs and give you a written price
Booked in — you get a date, and the office keeps you posted
Installed — usually a single day for a standard install, including our own electrical work
Tested and handed over — we run it up, check it, show you how to use it properly, and clean up after ourselves
Warranty and servicing — we handle warranty claims on the brands we supply

A split that's never been serviced runs harder, costs more to run and dies younger. A clean and a check once a year is the cheapest money you'll spend on it.
